Son of Jack joins Livestock

Son Of Jack is Welsh-born singer and songwriter JP Jones.  Although perhaps best known for his work with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders,  JP can also count Cher, Gary Barlow and Lucinda Williams as fans of his songs with the former cutting his song ‘Sirens’ for her latest album.

Whilst still regularly writing with the likes of Jack Knight, Nexus and Harrison Kipner, as Son of Jack, JP is pursuing a largely acoustic sound propagated from the Welsh roots that lie so close to his heart, history and inspiration.  Son Of Jack is a project that speaks for itself, inspired by JP’s own family and a promise to carry on his Father’s name.

Having taught himself guitar at a very early age, Son Of Jack’s sound is a raw, emotion-filled journey that draws on the experiences JP had whilst growing up beside the sea on Rest Bay in his native Porthcawl hometown.  Finding a mentor and inspiration in Jamiroquai’s Toby Smith, JP gained critical acclaim as the frontman of Grace, the band he formed with former schoolmates and which were described as “jaw-droppingly good” by The Sunday Times, and then later found significant success in the US with Chrissie Hynde as JP, Chrissie and the Fairground Boys.  Touring the country twice with the band, including an appearance at Lollapalooza Festival and on the Jimmy Fallon Show alongside The Roots, JP’s yearning for home grew stronger and as the group disbanded, Son Of Jack was born.

And so, as journeys often do, JP Jones has come full circle – back to Wales and the shores of Porthcawl.  Son Of Jack is an honest, open letter to everything that he has experienced over the last two years and with the expert production fingerprints of Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave and Beth Orton) and Sam Miller (The Temperance Movement) to be found all over the project, Son Of Jack is JP’s best work yet.
